Chapter 15
CHAPTER 15
The short answer was: no.
They were not going to see The Candy Monster YET... unless one of Skellii's cats, Kiwi, turned out to be The Candy Monster. (He wasn't; Kiwi was the cat with short hair, a small head, long legs, and an even longer tail that had knocked down Skellii's candlestick holders earlier.)
Kiwi ran up to Skellii and jumped into her arms.
"Aww, my sweet little baby snookems missed me! Isn't that precious?!" cried Skellii.
"Shhh!" whispered Zombi. "We don't want TCM to hear us!"
The others nodded in agreement, and Skellii quickly settled back down with Kiwi in her arms. And they waited a little more. Until...
They heard another rustle coming from the nearby path. Someone or something was eating the candy along the path and coming closer. And closer. And closer.
It was grumbling and snorting and making all kinds of disgusting, gobbling noises as it stuffed the candy into its hungry mouth. It had to be... The Candy Monster.
But it was too dark to see. Even though there was a full moon shining down, the trees around them were all casting huge, dark shadows.
The friends huddled together, ready to defend themselves. Ready to pounce. Ready for anything.
The sounds got louder and louder until The Candy Monster soon found its way onto the cobwebby-blanket, which was covered with all of Witchie's super-strong sleeping-potion-candies.
Then, a moment later, the cloth gave way! The Candy Monster dropped into the cage (which was in the hole in the ground)!
Franky immediately yanked on the rope by the tree. The cage's covering dropped right onto the top of the cage! It clicked into place and snapped shut tightly. Secure and strong.
The Candy Monster was caught!
At first it howled a big, loud, "Owwwwch!"
But then it fell quiet.
The friends all looked at one another. They were excited that they had caught the beast, but a little frightened too. What should they do next? - they wondered.
Zombi said, "What should we do next?"
JC suggested, "Maybe we should go over and take a look at it." He then turned to Franky and Vam Pea, "Are you sure it can't get out of the cage."
"Pretty sure," Franky replied. "That cage is built pretty solid."
"You mean 'solidly' - you need an adverb, when describing a verb--" started Mum-Z.
"Mum-Z, please," interrupted Gho-Stee, "Now is not the time for a grammar lesson. We have bigger issues here."
Franky got up and said, "Well, let's go see what we've got!"
But as he started to move, JC touched his arm. "Are we sure we can safely approach it?" asked JC.
"Well," replied Witchie, "I did put a ton of sleeping potion into those candies. So I'm pretty certain the beast is totally knocked out."
"Okay," nodded JC. And so he and Franky started moving slowly towards the cage that was in the hole in the ground. The others were right behind them. Zombi, however, was at the back of the group, looking around for something - or someone.
When they got to the edge of the pit, they looked down into the cage. But they couldn't see anything. It was too dark.
Then JC remembered that his magic wand had a light at the end of it. So he pulled it out, turned it on, and shined it into the cage.
Everyone GASPED at what they saw!
It was...
Wolfey!
