Chapter 13

CHAPTER 13

After a moment of silence, JC spoke up. “Look, it might not be that hard to get rid of the monster. I mean, what if we caught it first? Then Witchie could put a spell on it, or Mum-Z could figure out some kind of potion to inject it with...”

This was encouraging, and Wolfey jumped in quickly, "Hey, I’ll bet Franky could make a trap for it!"

"Oh, I know I could! Everyone knows I make the best traps," agreed Franky with confidence.

“And I could totally do up some drawings for the plans,” offered Vam Pea, who could actually draw much better than he could sing.

“I know where to find old bones in the graveyard that no one’s using anymore,” chirped in Skellii. “They could be very useful in building the trap.”

Mum-Z looked at Skellii, a little surprised. “Wow, that’s actually a really good idea.”

“I have lots of good ideas,” retorted Skellii, as she batted her long, false eyelashes, (which always freaked Mum-Z out a little). “I’m not just another pretty face.”

Zombi added, “I could help Witchie brew up some new candy as bait. We could pile it up in a strategic location.”

"Maybe where my old house once stood. And I could lace the candy with a sleeping potion that would knock out the monster until we figured out what to do with it," suggested Witchie.

“I could also fly around with some of that candy-bait and drop it strategically, creating trails, which could lead to the trap,” offered Gho-Stee.

Wolfey jumped up. “Hey, I could go over to where Witchie’s old house was and dig a ditch in the ground there. Then we could drop the cage into that hole, so TCM wouldn't see it."

"It's crazy, but it just may work!" exclaimed JC. He meant it a little ironically, because it was a cliché he'd heard in a lot of movies he'd seen, but the others didn't get the joke. Still, that was okay because the others were now getting excited about the plan.

"See, this is why I wanted us all to gather together!" remarked Witchie, as she looked around at her friends. “We’re so much more awesome when we work together!”

Zombi turned to Franky and Vam Pea. "When do you guys think you could have the plans done by?"

"It won’t take long,” said Franky, as Vam Pea nodded in agreement. “We could probably have the whole thing built by tonight. Nobody works faster than I do.”

“Oh, and it's a full moon tonight! Just like the night your house was eaten! So it's perfect!" cried Skellii.

"A full moon! You guys know I hate--" started Wolfey.

"Wait a sec," interrupted JC as he turned to Zombi. "I gotta get back home before then. And you said you didn't wanna miss my dad's baked ziti tonight."

"Your dad makes baked ziti? I love baked ziti!" exclaimed Franky. "Maybe he could make it for all of us!"

"You're missing the point," said JC. "I can't stay here overnight."

"Oh, don't worry about that," Witchie replied calmly. "Time runs differently here. Just the way Einstein explained with SpaceTime and the twin thought experiment."

"Huh?--" started JC.

But Zombi explained, "You could spend a lifetime here, and only a couple of hours would pass in your world. Just like in that book your dad read to us about the kids who went into that other land through the back of their closet. Remember? We talked about it earlier."

"Oh, right," said JC. "That makes sense."

"Not to me, it doesn't," said Wolfey.

"The point is," Zombi continued, "we should get started on our plan right away!"

But moments earlier, Vam Pea had already slipped away from the table and had now come back with a large sheaf of paper and charcoal. He was spreading the paper out on the table.

"Okay, let's get started!" shouted Franky, like he was in charge. (He wasn’t, but everyone just let him think he was.)

And they got to work.
